Chapter 04
Forever Undecided
The Year: 1993
The Place: North Carolina
I was self-absorbed.
I had a research paper due the next day.
I was writing the concluding paragraph.
Real life introduced Panama to me like this:
“Ultimately, Gödel’s legacy lies in the fact that mathematical truth will always exist beyond the reach of any formal system we construct. By attempting to hold truth within a created rule set, we inadvertently prove that the foundation of our logic relies on truths those rules can never justify…”
I was interrupted by the evening news.
“There is a region at the edge of the Darien Gap where the jungle runs uninterrupted across the border between Panama and Colombia. An armed group crossed from Colombia into Panama. In front of their families, three missionaries were taken at gunpoint.”
My phone rang; it was my prayer group.
