Chapter 15
From Jimmy to James
I’m not getting into all the emotions of divorce and children, let’s just say it’s difficult.
I had a brother three years younger than me. I wrote him a poem when I was 14. My reasons for writing it were mine. But, when he chose to end his life, it affected me in a way that turned me into an observer and a listener. It also gave me a sensitivity to situations that young people might need a little help to get through.
They found my poem in his wallet.
He carried it with him until the day he died.

Pick a four-leaf clover.
Make a wish upon a star.
Fight for individuality.
Find out who you are.
These years of life are precious.
Fill them all with joy.
For one day you’ll turn around
And no longer be a boy.
Pressure can break you
Or help force you to see
That now you are the man
You used to hope you’d be.
